Peter Wei-Cheng Chen

Peter Wei-Cheng Chen is a Taiwanese film composer currently based in New York. His work focuses on creating melodies that capture the emotional core of a character and the heart of a story.

Peter’s journey into composition began during his time at National ChengChi University in Taipei, where he served as headmaster and student conductor of the university’s wind band. It was during this period—while studying music theory and arranging for ensembles—that he discovered a deep passion for composing. His interest in film scoring deepened during his participation in Mabu, a film scoring program in Taiwan, where he gained valuable hands-on experience working closely with filmmakers and learning the real-world processes of the film music industry.

Now pursuing his graduate studies in Screen Scoring at New York University, Peter continues to develop his voice as a composer. His music spans a wide range of styles, from classical orchestral writing to ambient and atmospheric synth-based scores. He actively seeks out collaborations with student filmmakers, viewing each project as an opportunity to grow and connect more deeply with the storytelling process.

With a strong commitment to serving the narrative through music, Peter aims to create scores that are sensitive, sincere, and supportive of the film’s emotional landscape.
